College and university education can, undoubtedly, provide students with great career opportunities. But, not having a formal degree doesn’t mean you are unfit to get a good job.
Many individuals around the globe cannot continue their education due to lack of funds or other circumstances, but they possess the skill set to do various professional jobs. With the change in time, recruiters’ perception is changing, and many companies in the past have removed the degree criteria for most of their positions.
The best part is that a lot of positions that are offered by these companies are well-paid jobs in the industry. So let’s have a look at the various companies that don’t require you to have a degree:
1. Google
Google is one of the most reputed and popular technology companies in the world. Working with it is a dream of many individuals. It offers a wide range of jobs, many of which require practical experience with or without a degree.
“If you don’t know how to code, fret not, you can still have a successful career in a tech-powered job,” says the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai in an essay published Thursday on NBCNews.com, “While education and workplace training for an automated future has focused largely on coding, there will be many jobs that depend on softer tech skills.”

2. Ernst & Young
Ernst & Young which is commonly known as EY is one of the largest global finance services firms – headquartered in London. While there are various positions at EY that require bachelors or higher degree, they also advertise other flexible positions where a degree is not required to qualify.
Ernst and Young’s managing partner for talent – Maggie Stilwel – told the Huffington Post , “Academic qualifications will still be taken into account and indeed remain an important consideration when assessing candidates as a whole, but will no longer act as a barrier to getting a foot in the door.”
3. IBM
IBM is an award-winning multinational technology and consulting company that hires for various flexible positions where qualifications may include special certification or technical/practical experience. These positions don’t necessarily require a college or university degree.

Ginni Rometty – CEO of IBM – said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, “With the new technologies that are out there, I think there is an enormous addition tricky, sense there’s a large part of society that does not sensation this is going to be good for their future. …
So when it comes to schooling and skills, I think the government can’t solve it alone. I ponder businesses have to trust I’ll hire for skills, not just their degrees or their diplomas. Otherwise we’ll never bond this gap. All of us are full of businesses with university degrees, PhDs, you’ve got to mark room for everyone in society in these jobs.”
4. Apple
Apple – the most trusted tech giant – offers jobs for both experienced workers and entry-level that require facility with technology, ability to focus on details, and good communications skills — but no college degree.
“There’s a ‘mismatch’ between the skills learned in college and the skills that businesses need, especially when it comes to coding,” says Apple CEO – Tim Cook during the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board meeting.
While, during a White House Meeting in March 2019, he asserted, “50% of our US hires appointed in 2018 lacked college degrees; We never really thought that [a] college degree was the thing you had to have to do well,” reminding the audience that this tech giant was co-founded by Steve Jobs, a college drop-out.
5. Penguin Random House
Penguin Random House is a multinational publishing company formed in 2013 from the merger of Penguin Group and Random House. This publishing powerhouse offers flexible jobs that require ‘equivalent work experience’ instead of a 4-year program degree. Ever since it announced the removal of a university degree requirement, it has attracted a more diverse candidate pool.

6. Hilton
Hilton is a multinational hotel management and hospitality company headquartered in McLean, Virginia. It has more than 5000 properties all around the world. The company offers flexible opportunities that do not require a college or university degree.
Hilton CEO – Chris Nassetta believes learning to become a team player is more important than merely having a degree. She says, “It’s hard to think of any job nowadays that doesn’t require some degree of teamwork, and because of this, companies expect candidates to be adept collaborators. Lean into the opportunities you have to work with others at your current job.”
7. The Nas Company
Nuseir Yassin, famously known as Nas, a video creator from Israel, after creating 1000 videos of 1-minute on Facebook over 1000 days, established his company based in Singapore.
He currently operates the Nas Daily Corporation, a video production company. The company works with different brands to create videos that make real impacts, both offline and online.

8. Lockheed Martin Corporation
It is an American multinational aerospace, security, defence, and advanced technologies company. The company was formed by the merger of Martin Marietta with Lockheed Corporation in March 1995. It is headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland.
During a White House Meeting, the CEO of Lockheed Martin – Marillyn Hewson said, “14,000 people were hired last year by Lockheed, half did not have a four-year degree, and 6,500 were in manufacturing. The company has boosted its workforce training.”
